EE: Glastonbury app

Be part of the crowd, wherever you are. Who says you can’t?

Brief

  1. EE wanted us to enhance the Glastonbury experience by modernising, updating and future proofing the app, AND retaining and enhancing existing app functionality.

  2. Poke being Poke needed to innovate and pioneer new features and functions for festival goers (175k) and at those at HOME (22m)

Insight

We know crowds amplify emotions as the energy and atmosphere come from the crowd. We know crowds can be wise or stupid as they can be a gauge of good and bad. Lastly we know crowds move you, you can go with them or against them.

The idea

We wanted to use the power of EE’s network to transform Glastonbury into a festival that the whole nation can be part of. Making sure we bring home and festival audiences together to create one giant connected crowd. EE claiming Wembley as the most connected stadium and us adding the most connected festival (Glasto) to their belt.

how we did it

We wanted to ensure that both home and festival go-ers had moments to experience and highlights to share. The heart of the app was the “wow” button, a button that users engage with when they are enjoying their Glasto experience. The data from that button acted as the blood in our app as it fueled and shaped the whole app experience.

We wanted to harness the huge amounts of live data crowds give us to help our audience explore, discover, filter, navigate, share and remember.

The wow button

Using live ‘wow’ data we can share trending acts with people back home through social media. All in real time, pushing people to watch or discover more. Enabling the wow button to be the pulse of the festival.

The App

For festival goers we’ll enhance all the existing features so they adapt and flex to real time moments and for both home and field audiences we’ll harness data from the crowd to power exploration and discovery.

The features

With heaps of research in apps that look at, music streaming, gameplay streaming, content hubs and other well known festival apps. we thought we’d use all the things that really matter to you. Things which you’ll actually need in a situation, whether you’re at home on your sofa or 12 pints in watching The White stripes on the Pyramid Stage.
