The bootcamp

Two mad men named Lincoln Stephens and Larry Yarell created an ad-bootcamp In Dallas, Texas. This bootcamp was created to allow people from diverse backgrounds, the platform to break through in the advertising industry.

Initially this was made to find the best talent in the U.S from anything from project management to copywriting. in 2015 they opened it up to international applicants, after stress, and a number of intense interviews (while doing my dissertation)…I claimed that position.

This bootcamp was sponsored and linked with Wieden & Kennedy, LeoBurnett, Rapp, Beats By Dre, Fossil Watches and many…many more. Enabling us to talk to people we’d never thought imaginable and going to places that we could only have dreamed of as an Ad-Man.

An opportunity that really put me in the thick of it…. new surroundings, new industry, new people, new levels of stress….. and Texas. I literally grabbed that bull by its horns, Texan style… That Tex-Mex though!

Now a fully fledged alumni, standing next to ad executives across the world. Trying to make a change in culture and in the Ad-Industry.

Our agency (after reading, scroll down)

The team of 15 were tasked create a pop up agency from scratch, everything from its brand fundamentals to the to the design. All while taking on briefs and whisked to big and small agencies all over the U.S where we got inside information we never thought imaginable.

We managed clients such as PepsiCo, Beats and Ushers New Look Foundation. I took the role of a hybrid creative, providing the skills of a copywriter and an art director. We created conceptual integrated campaigns that we pitched to all clients at the end of the bootcamp.

Sounds normal right? You eat, work and play with your colleagues. You really learn how to get past your own crap and work as a team, a family and a wolfpack. This experience matured me as a person as I really saw what kind of madness (Ad-Land) I was getting into. Ultimately teaching me how to work efficiently and calmly pressure and how to play this ad game with every card dealt.

At the end of the bootcamp all the clients and agencies had an interview fair and chose the individuals which they saw fit to hire.

I landed a job off Venice beach at an agency called Zambezi as a copywriter and conceptual creative. What a start to my ad career! #Humble
