Wembley cup 2016 - The second instalment
After the Wembley Cup's 2015 triumph, EE tasked us with making 2016 even bigger. Their goal, spotlight their Wembley partnership and launch a free six-month BT Sport mobile trial for young football fans.
The idea
Two YouTubers captained rival teams in an eight-episode series of spectacular football challenges. As a football fan, I deconstructed the skills needed for each position, amplifying classic drills to create truly next-level tests and surpass the previous year's success.
how it worked
Each challenge victory earned the winning captain first pick from a pool of YouTube talent and EA FIFA legends. The losing captain's pick? Decided by a live Twitter poll, putting "THE GAME IS IN YOUR HANDS" – a tagline reflecting both the series' interactivity and EE's offer.
The culmination of the eight-episode series was a historic first for the Wembley Cup: a ticketed, livestreamed final on Wembley's hallowed turf, where the rival teams finally settled their score.
TWC won the Most Effective Brand Campaign at the YouTube Awards in 2017. And the Best online Commercial, September 2016.
